Liquor is a mystery.
The fact that whiskey comes from grain feels like magic. How could something so complex and pleasurable to drink come from seeds? Liqueurs derive their flavor from leaves, roots, bark, skins and seeds extracted into alcohol and sweetened to offset the intensity of those flavors. Is that a satisfying explanation of the sensory experience liqueurs produce?
Cocktails also feel like Magic.
Just like a moving piece of music or a captivating painting, a great cocktail is much more than the sum of its parts. It transcends its ingredients and becomes something separate, something more. Liquor and cocktails are part science and part art.
At Dismal Harmony we were intrigued by these mysteries and sought to understand the science of liquor and create the art of cocktails. We were determined to make the best ingredients for the best cocktails and feature these ingredients in great cocktails in our tasting room. We have succeeded in delivering this to you from beginning to end, from grains and plants to cocktails.
